A whole range of interesting scientific personalities will perform, showmen from the EKG Cabaret will present their literary guests, the panel discussion topic will be ‘Scams in Science’. So we can start writing abstracts. This year's Conference: 20–21 April. Read an invitation from prof. Jan Trka, the organiser of the conference.

The experienced already know that the beginning of February is also the beginning of preparations for the Faculty's Scientific Conference. This year's Conference will take place on 20 and 21 April and, of course, the main programme highlight will be invited speakers' lectures and our students' lectures and posters. The Scientific Conference is not only a scientific presentation, we also hope to arrange an interesting accompanying programme.
But to go to the beginning: We are starting by collecting Abstracts. The deadline is 10 March. I remind students that active participation is compulsory for third-year and higher PhD students, if they did not present last year.
Who will you see besides your colleagues? We've invited two interesting main speakers: on Wednesday 20 April, an outstanding doctor and scientist from Vienna Medical University, Prof. Shahrokh François Shariat, will hold a lecture. He will speak on Urology and Careers in Medicine and Science in Europe and the United States.
On Thursday 21 April prof. Jiří Beneš from the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, will open the programme. He will speak on Alternative Medicine, Sciolism and Scams in Medicine in general.
Scams – this time in Science – will be the topic of the Wednesday panel discussion. The format proved good last year, so we invite prof. Václav Hořejší (Head of the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Academy of Sciences ČR, who is actively interested in the topic of fraud), doc. Michal Kubát (Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences UK – because even scholars and social scientists commit fraud, from time to time) and scientific journalist from Lidové noviny, dr. Martin Rychlík (as scientists mainly spend public money and journalists should keep an eye on them). How common is fraud in Science? How big is the problem? Do people commit scams in big issues, in small issues, or both? How does one recognise falsified results? And what should one do with them? We won't fully answer all the questions, but should at least touch on the most interesting!
The EKG literary show by the duo of Jaroslav Rudiš and Igor Malijevský is a traditional part of the Conference. The guests are not known as yet, but we can look out for famous names from literature and the topic will be – what else – ‘Scams in Literature’…
Now let's sit down to our keyboards and start writing Abstracts because the scientific programme is our main priority. The scientific board is looking forward to a stream of interesting results.
We have something to look forward to!
The news is that, instead of last year's traditional Cheerful Party, Faculty Night will be held.
